Our client is seeking an experienced Business Services Manager to oversee a portfolio of clients and ensure the highest standards of client service. In this role, you will serve as the primary point of contact for clients, managing all aspects of client work, and coordinating with various departments to deliver optimal results.
Additionally, you will lead and mentor a small team, allocating work, ensuring technical excellence, and supporting trainee accountants through their professional qualifications.
Essential Skills:
- Proven ability to manage and nurture client relationships
- Strong people management skills – able to lead and motivate a team
- Confidently able to deal with client requests and queries with strong prioritisation skills
- Able to negotiate fees with clients constructively and sensitively
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritise effectively
- Able to prepare, review and deliver statutory accounts to clients with commercial business analysis
- Able to confidently onboard new clients and ensure that regulatory and compliance tasks are completed in the required time
- Strong written and verbal communication skills ensuring a clear message in precise language is conveyed to clients and colleagues
- Able to ensure all work is carried out to the highest standards
- High proficiency in Excel and MS Office with a good knowledge of accounting and reporting software
- Knowledge of budgeting and forecasting (desirable).
Key Responsibilities:
Client Management
- Managing client relationships ensuring that clients are engaged with the practice and receiving the services that they need
- Managing the commercial relationships with clients and agreeing the correct level of fees for the work that the Company do
- Identifying additional client needs and presenting solutions to clients as part of the ongoing relationship
- Dealing with clients, managing expectations and delivering work to those clients, face to face, over the phone or via video calls
- Achieving billing targets agreed with the Head of Business Services
- Ensuring client engagement letters are up to date and all compliance matters are dealt with.
- Ensuring all staff are gaining appropriate experience and developing their knowledge base
- Ensuring staff are performing their work to a high technical standard in a time that is commensurate with the fee being charged
- Ensuring staff are utilising their time effectively and achieving the target utilisation figures for their role
- Supporting trainee accountants to ensure they complete the required work for their apprenticeship record requirements and passing their exams.
- Ensuring that work is started at the right time and completed within acceptable timeframes
- Monitoring time costs on jobs and reporting on significant cost overruns compared to fees to the Head of Business Services
- Monitoring workflows and ensuring that delays are dealt with and escalated to the Head of Business Services.

Experiences and Qualifications:
- Qualified Accountant (ACA/ACCA/CIMA) or Qualified By Experience
- An experienced Business Services/Client Manager currently working within practice
- Highly capable technical accounting and tax knowledge which can confidently be brought to bear on client engagements
- Experienced in focusing on client service delivery and ensuring compliance via a team of bookkeepers and trainee accountants
- People management/supervisory experience – experienced in leading a team
- Current/clean driving licence with the use of your own vehicle (as some travel to client sites is required).
